Cold rooms that hold through harvest

Refrigeration and air service for packing houses, cold storage and pre-cooling rooms. We check every room before your first load, and a technician answers the line all night.

Harvest calendar

Your crop sets our calendar

Each bar is a pack-out. The check comes four to six weeks before it, so a failing part is found while it can still be ordered.

  • Stone fruit: peaches, plums, nectarines

First load of the year, warm from the field. Pre-season check in March or April, because the room has to pull the first pallet down fast.

    May to Aug

  • Table grapes

Long holds in the same room for weeks. Pre-season check in June: coils, drains and door seals, which take the wear.

    Jul to Nov

  • Pomegranates and persimmons

A shorter run into the holidays. Pre-season check in August, with the table-grape rooms.

    Sep to Dec

  • Citrus: navels and mandarins

The longest run, with rooms loaded and unloaded for months. Pre-season check in October, defrost cycles first.

    Nov to Apr

  • Our pre-season checks

Booked from February. Tell us your loading dates and we hold the week before each one.

    Mar-Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct

  • Slow season: bigger jobs

Coil replacement, new rooms, controls upgrades and anything that needs a room empty for a week.

    Jan to Feb

What we service

Every room between the field and the truck

  • Cold rooms and walk-ins

Compressors, condensers, evaporators, defrost and door seals, from one walk-in to a packing house's whole line.

  • Pre-cooling and holding

Forced-air tunnels, fans and airflow, so fruit that arrives warm reaches temperature on the first load.

  • Controls and alarms

Sensors in each room, set points agreed with your shed manager, and alarms that text the phones you pick.

  • Dock, floor and office air

Rooftop units, ventilation and dock curtains, serviced by the crew that knows the building.

The pre-season check

What we look at before the first load

The same walk in every room, in the order you load. Here it is on a refrigeration line.

    Line insulation

Wet or torn insulation drips on product and hides leaks. We walk every run.

  2. 2

    Supports and clamps

A season of vibration loosens them. Loose pipe fatigues and cracks.

  3. 3

    Valves and service ports

Caps, seals and labels checked, and a leak search at every joint we can reach.

  4. 4

    Floor, pans and drains

Ice and standing water show where a room has been struggling.

The 24-hour line

A person answers at 2 a.m.

The emergency line rings through to the on-call refrigeration technician's phone, not a message service. Product at risk goes first.

  • We ask what is in the room, what it reads and whether the door is open

  • You hear which pallets to move first while we drive

  • Alarms from your sensors can ring the same line

  • Nights and weekends follow your service agreement, written down before the season

From the sheds

What shed managers say

“A room that struggled all June pulled down the first July load without a fuss. The March check had found the fan motor that was about to quit.”

Zaira E.Shed manager, stone fruit packer

“They called me before the check and asked which rooms load first. Nobody in this trade had asked me that before.”

Kaye C.Peach and plum grower

“The alarm texted at one in the morning and a person who knew our rooms picked up. We moved two pallets and kept the rest.”

Questions

What growers and packers ask

When should we book the pre-season check?

Four to six weeks before your first load of the crop. For stone fruit that is March or April, for table grapes June, for citrus October. Rooms that sat empty need the most time, because a part that fails on the check can still be ordered.

What does the check cover, and does it stop the rooms?

We go room by room with your shed manager, in the order you load. We test pull-down, defrost, door seals, fans, drains and alarms, then hand you a written list: fix before loading, and can wait. Most rooms stay in service; a short shutdown is agreed ahead.

A room is not pulling down. What do we do first?

Close the doors, check that nothing blocks the evaporator fans, and call the line. Tell us what is in the room and what the thermometer reads. If product is at risk, we will say which pallets to move first while we are on the way.

Who answers the 24-hour line, and do nights cost more?

A refrigeration technician on call answers, not a message service. Nights, weekends and holidays are billed under the service agreement you sign before the season, and we put that rate in writing then, not at 2 a.m.

How do you quote work?

Every job is quoted per room or per line, in writing, before work starts. The quote lists the scope, the equipment, who pulls the permit and how long the number holds. There is no price list because a pre-cool tunnel and a single walk-in are different jobs.

Do you work on ammonia systems?

We service halocarbon (Freon-type) and CO2 systems. Large ammonia plants have their own operators and rules; we work beside your plant operator on the air side and the controls, and we say plainly what we leave to them.

Tell us which rooms load first

A shed manager or an owner reads this, and calls back the same working day. If product is at risk right now, call the line instead.

What do you need?

For a room in trouble now, call (559) 555-0102. Nothing here is a quote; the written quote comes after we see the rooms.
